Our Staff

Gil George, Pastor

Gil joined the BFC staff in 2002. He has served in a several Friends Churches in the Northwest over his nearly 40 years of ministry. Ministry has also included foreign mission work in South America. Gil is a graduate of Seattle Pacific University. Gil and Louise have two grown children, Kevin and Jeff, and six grandchildren.

Lana Thurston, Church Administrator

Lana, our church administrator, grew up in Eastern Washington, attending Entiat Friends Church. Lana has lived in several different states, and always attended a Friends Church when there was one nearby. She began working for the US Forest Service while she was still in college, held a variety of jobs with the agency, and most recently was the Administrative Officer for the Boise National Forest. She retired from there in 2007 after 32 years of federal service. She began working for BFC in March, 2008. Her job includes coordinating technology issues, helping with worship planning, supporting committees in their work, and taking as much of the administrative burden off the Pastor as possible.

Louise George, Church Administrator

I’m Louise George, and it can probably be said that I joined the staff at Boise Friends Church in 2002 when I came with Gil to serve as associate pastor. I wasn’t officially a staff member then, but with Gil you get the complete package that includes his wife! We have always worked closely together, so when he moved into the lead pastoral position, he asked me to officially join the leadership team. My role is a little hard to define. Gil says I’m the Idea Person, and that’s a euphemistic way of saying that ideas pop into my head quicker than I can say no to them. But it also means that I get to be the one to think off down the road about what we need to be thinking about and looking at. When everyone else has summer and vacations on their minds, I’m thinking about Christmas and snow. That’s sort of how it works.

The other part I play, along with the rest, is to help keep us focused on asking Jesus what he wants us to do next. This part excites me because it involves the parts of prayer I love most: sitting with Jesus and listening to him. He’s head of this organization we call church, and he cares a lot about what we do and how we do it.

Sheryl Seals, Receptionist & Office Administrator

After growing up attending Boise Friends Church, Sheryl joined the church staff in 2000. She and her husband, Michael, have been married for 25 years and have two children: Jason, a high schooler, and Laura, a BSU student. Sheryl enjoys knitting, watching old movies, going to Jason’s B-ball games, and going to coffee with friends. Sheryl and Michael attend Cole Community Church where Michael is a part of the music leadership.

Joyce Hickerson, C.A.R.E. Coordinator

Joyce joined BFC’s staff in March of 2008 as the coordinator of CARE (Connection, Assistance, Resources, and Encouragement). A desire of Joyce’s heart is to assist people in need by doing a needs assessment, and then helping to connect the people with the resources, in our church or in our community, that can help the most. These services include coordination of meal planning, childcare, and transportation needs that may arise for individuals and families. Other times, it may be coordination of community resources to help with support and care. This ministry also helps coordinate the activity of the benevolence fund.

Allison Wood, Youth Coordinator
